Organic agriculture creates the basis for high-quality, sustainable food. LACON supports agricultural businesses — from traditional fields and livestock businesses to apiaries, nurseries, pond farms, wineries and mixed fruit producers.

The EU Organic Regulation regulates exactly how organic products may be produced, processed and labelled. The focus is on promoting soil fertility, healthy plants and species-appropriate animal husbandry through organic feeding, crop rotations and high animal welfare standards.

The changeover begins when you register with an organic inspection body. LACON checks annually — registered and unannounced — whether the requirements are met. In this way, organic quality is comprehensibly documented and made visible to consumers.

Organic beekeeping makes an important contribution to ecological balance and sets high standards in husbandry, site selection and product purity. Organic beekeepers use residue-free wax, natural materials and use organic acids or essential oils for Varroa treatment.

The beehives must be located in areas that are mostly organically managed or have no negative effects on honey quality. There are also clear rules when it comes to feeding — only organic honey, organic sugar or organic syrup are allowed.

LACON monitors all measures every year — from site documentation to honey production to varroa treatment. The product may only be marketed as “organic honey” if the requirements are met in full.
